Duties included: Diagnosis and
rectification of defects on mechanical equipment
and lighting and domestic power circuits, further
training in workshop practices, including
practical management and regulations covering
safety and security of personnel and equipment,
also implementing safety procedures when working
in oil tanks, bulk storage etc.

Osprey
18 months H.M.S Osprey, Portland
Bill, Weymouth. Duties included: More training
in marine engineering technology, including the
hull, main boilers and auxiliary gas turbines,
diesel testing, refrigeration and air conditioning
units, hydraulics etc, also a period of tool
making / lathe work. Click

Drake
12 months H.M.S. Drake Plymouth
sound. Duties include: Coxan of 30ft barge
acting as security vessel for older vessels
awaiting decommissioning laid off in Plymouth
sound. Duties included: Boarding retired frigates
& destroyers, submarines, and checking all
compartments daily for abnormalities. Click

18 months HMS Sirius,
Leander class post war steam frigate based in
Plymouth, duties included: maintenance of various
types of auxiliary machinery and their systems.
Also now competent to take charge of a boiler room
containing high pressure water tube boilers and
all associated machinery in the boiler room under
all steaming conditions (Falklands War). Click

Boat builder, cabinet maker/joiner. Duties
include: Operation of 3 travel hoists for vessels
up to 40 tons concerned primarily with the repair,
restoration, and modernisation of vessels of all
types. Current projects include major refit of a
1948 33ft pitch pine on oak Bermudan
cutter. Refit on 1938 4 ton Hillyard.
Refurbishment on a 30ft GRP Colvic
express.

consultancy. Part Time Small Craft Surveyor.
Duties include full time employment with Custom
Yachts, Albany, Auckland construction of 60Ft
